NATURALIZATION CEREMONY AT CINCINNATI STATE

Thursday, May 01, 2008   (0 Comments)

The International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) and the Humanities and Sciences Divisions are sponsoring a naturalization ceremony this Friday, May 2, from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. in the Conference Center.  Judge Barrett will be present to swear in 98 new citizens.  Hosting this event will benefit Cincinnati State in many ways.

The past several years have been difficult for newcomers to the United States because of anti-immigrant sentiment following 9/11.  Hosting a naturalization ceremony shows goodwill toward new Americans and provides a welcoming atmosphere for all.

The naturalization ceremony will spark dialog in the Cincinnati State community about issues relating to immigration.  This is especially important given all the recent changes in immigration policy.

The ceremony will include 98 new citizens and their families.  In past years, the College has had over 300 people at a naturalization ceremony.  This event will be publicized in the Cincinnati area and may attract new students to Cincinnati State.

An awareness of our global society is vitally important in the education of our students.  ISAB is grateful for the chance to contribute to this effort.
